We love our Mules and Mammoth
Donkeys! A mule is the offspring of a male
donkey and a female
horse. A mule possesses the
sobriety, patience, endurance and sure-footedness of the
donkey with the vigor, strength and courage of the
horse, making them an extraordinary animal to raise.
The breeding of mules in America started with the great
lines of mammoth jacks given to George Washington by the
King of Spain. Since those first mules later breeders
began to utilize better mares for mule production until
today's modern saddle mule emerged. We own and raise
Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred mules. We use our mules
for trail riding and our team of Quarter horse mules,
Dave and Sunday also pull a wagon. |

American Mammoth Jack Stock
is the world's largest breed of donkeys. The breed was
developed in the United States through the
cross-breeding of imported large European breeds
(predominantly from Spain) with native American and
Mexican donkeys. Most people think that the common
Spanish burro is the sire of most mules, but they are
wrong. It is very difficult to breed the short Spanish
burros to a horse mare. Mammoth jacks often mature up
to 16 hands. Now that’s a big donkey!
We drove all the way to Ohio to
purchase our Mammoth Jenny, Sugar and she has produced
many fine Mammoth jacks with outstanding color for us.
We love her kind, patience, sweet temperament. Many,
many years ago we adopted a BLM burro who produced a
baby burro whom we named Buddy. He is now over 20 years
old and has been a steadfast part of our lives
everyday. They are excellent baby sitters for our young
calves and kid goats. Donkeys are world renowned for
their herd protection abilities. Not a bad job for
either one, just watching the youngins! |
